Default 2011 WRX Stage 1 + SF Flutter Sound

    Hi all,

This might be a common question and I searched for a couple combinations but couldn't find an answer so I'm hoping someone can help.

I just finished installing my SF intake on my 2011 WRX hatch and flashed to the stage 1 + sf 91 map. I had the plain stage 1 map for the past week and it's been fine, boost seems accurate, power delivery is smoother, basically awesome. :-)

Now with the intake I can hear a fluttering as I let off the gas and the air gets recirculated. It's not everytime, sometimes it is sharper but I can't tell if it's under certain conditions or just random. I have heard it both at lower boost and closer to full.

My car is otherwise stock aside from the intake and tune. Is this a normal sound or should I be expecting a sharper 'pssht' each time?

    Thanks for the help!

I have the exact same sound. I just posted this to the forum:

"I'm running a 2012 sti sedan. Cobb stage 1 + SF intake and box. My question is this, since installing the intake I get to hear the turbo draw and BPV which I really enjoy. One thing I have noticed is that when I WOT in say 4th, I get a fluttering sound. No jerkiness, pulls well and data logs indicate no knock at all. Psi is tidy across the board and peaks at 18.4 and tails off to 14 at the red line. When I let off the gas, I can hear the BPV releasing the pressure and a good, single pssssssssssh is heard.

I know that you hear much more when you install these intakes, but I just want to ensure that the sound I'm hearing is just the waste doing its job and not compressor surge. I know that there are a lot of comments on this out there in the forums, but I just want to ask the experts from the community.

If the sound I am hearing is simply the wastegate doing its job, then is there a product out there that will eliminate this flutter sound?"

You will hear a lot more turbo-related noises with an aftermarket intake. This is normal. Some enjoy the additional sound, while others may not. If you are in the latter category, you may want to consider swapping back the stock intake.
